Books at Home Annual Book Distribution Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to receive books from the Literacy Council, programs must:
- Provide literacy services in Greater Hartford (within the geographic area served by the Literacy Council)*
- Be a member of the Literacy Council as an organization (Individual members are not eligible for books)**
- Use the books in literacy activities and then send them home with children or parents to foster reading and build home libraries. While the majority of these books must be sent home with children, some may be kept in the classroom.
- Serve children and families from low-income households
- Be a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status or a school
* The following 35 towns and cities comprise the Literacy Council's service area: Andover, Avon, Bloomfield, Bristol, Burlington, Bolton, Canton, East Granby, East Hartford, East Windsor, Ellington, Enfield, Farmington, Glastonbury, Granby, Hartford, Hebron, Manchester, Marlborough, New Britain, Newington, Plainville, Rocky Hill, Simsbury, Somers, Southington, South Windsor, Stafford, Suffield, Tolland, Vernon, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Windsor, Windsor Locks
