We hope you will consider becoming a member and aligning with more than 100 nonprofit organizations, individuals, corporations, and government agencies in a unified effort to improve literacy levels, raise awareness about literacy issues, and initiate literacy enhancement efforts.

There are two categories of Literacy Council membership, one is for organizations/businesses and the other is for individuals. Please select the appropriate membership fee category after reviewing the differences listed below. The duration of membership is twelve months and is renewable.

Organizations/businesses:
  • With an annual budget more than $500,000
  • With an annual budget less than $500,000
  • A school, program, or department funded/operated by a current Literacy Council member town, city, school system, large organization or business*
  • City of Hartford programs and schools**

* If a town, city, school system, large organization, or business pays a $100 membership fee, the programs/schools/departments it funds/operates may join for $25 each. (One of the programs/schools/departments will be exempt from the fee, but must complete this form.)

** Because the City of Hartford is a major sponsor of the Literacy Council, programs and schools funded/operated by the City of Hartford are exempt from the fee, but must complete this form.

Individual Members Receive:
  • Quarterly print newsletter
  • Monthly e-newsletter
  • Periodic advocacy alerts
  • Access to free educational materials and resources (not eligible for books)
  • Priority access to resources when supplies are limited
  • Notice of networking opportunities and an invitation to participate in the work groups of the Literacy Council
  • Discounted rate at Literacy Council functions
Organization/Business Members Receive:
  • Membership benefits for up to ten individuals
  • Quarterly print newsletter
  • Monthly e-newsletter
  • Periodic advocacy alerts
  • Access to free educational materials and resources, our lending library, and our software demonstration computers
  • Priority access to resources when supplies are limited
  • Notice of networking opportunities and an invitation to participate in the work groups of the Literacy Council
  • Discounted rate at Literacy Council functions
  • Free books for eligible literacy providers
  • A special listing on the Literacy Council’s website and on various awareness raising materials
  • Access to collaborative grant and/or resource-sharing opportunities
  • Opportunity to post announcements in the monthly e-newsletter and events on the website event calendar
