Ok. It’s been at least ten years now. Pirate costumes have taken over Halloween for ten years, it is time for them to stop. Pirate costumes overkill is fully in effect and it should end as soon as possible. The proper Drafting Chairs on your office is an important decision. Yes, there was a time where a good pirate costume or two would be a hit for the party. I remember seeing a pirate at a Halloween party several years ago and thinking, wow, what a cool costume. This past year, I saw at least two dozen different pirates and I thought, wow, what a lame costume. If you want to have the worst costume at your Halloween party, go with some pirate costumes.

Ok, maybe that is a little hard on pirate costumes. Maybe some of them can be really cool, especially the female pirate costumes. Still, if you want a good Halloween costume, you are better off picking something other than a pirate.

That said, if you are going to go for a pirate look, here are a couple of suggestions to make it slightly less obnoxious. First of all, putting on an eye patch and talking with an argh does not make you a pirate. If you want to dress up as a pirate, fine. Just put in some effort. That said, if you do want to dress up, make sure that you do not go over board either. One sign you might be over-committing to your costume is if you start growing out your facial hair months ahead to get an authentic-looking goatee, complete with beads. That is a little much.

At this point you might be thinking about what the next pirate costumes might be. In other words, if pirates are the old fad then what is the new one? Here are some possible costumes that will eclipse pirate costumes in popularity. For men, I have targeted a couple of different men’s costumes ideas that could catch fire over the next few years.

First of all, I think the fighter pilot costume is a good one. It has a certain coolness to it and plenty of potential references to Top Gun. Like Drafting Chair, many of these fashions were somewhat adjustable to offer the utmost comfort and thus the utmost working time. Another good possibility is Sherlock Holmes or other detective characters. Finally, consider nautical themes such as sailors or fishermen.

In conclusion, if you are going the pirate costume route, consider the things mentioned above. Pirate costumes should be neither trying too hard or trying too little. But most of all, you should avoid pirate costumes. They’re unoriginal and lame.
